I receive an IP address in both the router and laptop, however the connection will show Unidentified Network Local Only yet I won't have local access to network drives and computers either. I have the dlink hardwired to the Netgear to act as a switch. The problem I have, is that I can't figure out why the vista pc can connect to the dlink through wpa, but not the netgear. Still can't get past this local network only problem. I can hardly see blaming this on the wireless card either because, again, it connects to the dlink through wpa. I have a working setup right now so I suppose I'll just have to wait for netgear to figure it out. The router is brand new. Hoping I can get some free support. A friend of mine installed Windows 10 on a new drive in his windows 7 system everything worked Ok except for the Net gear WNAm wireless adapter not found. It works OK from the windows 7 build, tried down loading various drivers for windows I removed the PC to my home and connected via Ethernet cable to my router did an update driver software from device manager let it search the web. New driver found and installed now works on window 7 and windows 10 drives retired HP support engineer.
I recently installed Windows 10 and have the problem with the Netgear WNA dropping the connection. I went to the Netgear site and downloaded the software for Windows 10 but am still having the problem. I followed the directions for uninstalling the Netgear software and then reinstalling as directed.
If there is something else that I am missing I would appreciate any help to this problem. I am at the point of replacing the WNA if I can't solve this problem. Once installed manually update driver software. JamesGL thank you for the reply. I solved the problem.
I moved the adapter to a USB 2. I guess I am giving up some speed but for the reliability I am OK with this. When I reviewed the specs for the adapter it didn't say anything about 3. I wonder why Windows 10 doesn't likethe 3. Try to use the standalone driver instead that one with genie. We are investigating this as the highest priority and will provide updates at Status.
